When debutant director Zoya Akhtar approached him to play the wacky reel-life director Ranjeet, Sanjay was skeptical. He was used to playing the main lead, although he never gave a hit. However, he loved the script and accepted the role. Now, he is glad that he did. His character Ranjeet, who loves Clint Eastwood and is inspired by Hollywood DVDs, has earned him so much appreciation that Sanjay is all smiles.
